Florence is known as a "City of Art". However, the Renaissance saw a surge in other areas too such as politics, philosophy, and science. At the forefront was Galileo. In 2010 Florence opened a museum dedicated to Galileo and Renaissance science and it is a jewel. We took a 90-minute interactive guided tour. It is truly amazing how science and technology has evolved since the 1500's to where it is now.
After a quick lunch we boarded the train to Pisa. We could use the 1 hour rest as we glide comfortably through the Italian countryside. The city of Pisa itself is not as attractive to the traveler as is Florence or perhaps Rome, but it does have the Field of Miracles where upon the Leaning Tower of Pisa can be found. It really does lean - to the point where one wonders how it even stands up at all. Also at the Field of Miracles is a stunning cathedral, baptistry and museum.
After the easy trip back to Florence we went out for a meal at a small casual restaurant near the hotel. After some appetizers, pastas, main courses and a little bit of wine, we decided to skip the gelato tonight and headed back to the hotel for a good night's rest.

On our last small group tour of Italy, about half the group (4 of us) took a 2-day extension of the trip to Venice. It exceeed my expectations in that it is more romantic than I could have possibly imagined. Venice is one of those unique places on earth because it really is a city built into the sea.
