Hotel American Dinesen:  There is a lot to like about this hotel. It is family owned, therefore travelers can expect to get top-notch and personalized service.  It is located in the desirable Dorsudoro section, close to everything but away from the touristy crowds.  There are good restaurants in the area, including one of our favorites, Ristorante Cantinone offering canal-side or indoor dining.  The breakfast (included in the rate) in the attractive dining area offers cheeses, meats, pastries and coffees of all types.  The beautifully decorated hotel has a great advantage in that it is located directly on a canal.  That means your private boat transfer to and from the airport can drop you directly at the hotel making your stay easy and relaxing.  We love this hotel for our Traveling Professor small group tours to Venice.

Hotel al Piave:  A 3-star gem that must be considered on your next trip to Venice.  Although it is not a canal-side hotel, it is tucked away in a quiet spot but near all the major attractions.  For instance, it is an easy walk to San Marco Piazza as well as the Opera house.   It is a family-owned hotel and a warm Venetian welcome can always be expected upon arrival.  The rooms are beautifully decorated in traditional style.  There are plenty of restaurants in the area.  At the al Piave, The Professor always feels like he is in the Venice from years ago - the experience is authentic.  The al Piave is a highly recommended hotel for you next trip to Venice.
