  • Price:  $3,999 per person, double occupancy. Add $1299 for your own room. The Iceland add-on option is $2199 per person double occupancy, add  $333 and have your own room.

What You Get

What's Included:

  • Hotels:  2 nights in Copenhagen, 1 overnight Commodore-class cruise from Copenhagen to Oslo, 3 nights Oslo, 2 nights Flam, 2 nights Bergen, 4 nights Reykjavik (optional add-on).   Hotels 4-star quality accommodations in central locations.  We have hand-picked hotels for convenience, level of service, cleanliness, size, and quality.  The Fretheim Hotel in Flam is a spectacular lodge-like hotel with deluxe rooms with patio or balcony views.
  • All Breakfasts.  2 Norwegian style buffet dinners at the Fretheim Hotel.
    Transportation:  All domestic transportation in Copenhagen, Norway and Iceland except airport transfers TO Copenhagen hotel and FROM Reykjavik hotel to airport. 
    All guided tours
  • Travelers will be given an “Oslo Pass” and a “Bergen Card” giving VIP entrance to all sites on the itinerary plus much, much more.  It also includes unlimited local public transportation.
  • Group private transfers to/from Bergen airport.  Group private transfers from Reykjavik airport. Transfer from Copenhagen hotel to ferry.
    Choice of one activity in Flam to include Sogneford ferry cruise or safari fjord boat PLUS Flam hike.

What's Not Included:

  • Airfare between North America and Denmark/Iceland.  Airfare from Bergen to Reykjavik (see note about airfare below).
  • Personal expenses
  • Meals other than specified on the itinerary. 
  • Travel insurance.   We STRONGLY advise having medical coverage and emergency evacuation insurance while traveling overseas.   See the Notes section for more information.
  • Tips (tipping is minimal) and The Traveling Professor does not accept tips.
  • Fees for Individual Activities not on the itinerary.
  • Airport transfers from airport to hotel in Copenhagen and from hotel in Reykjavik.  We are happy to make transfer arrangements however.
Notes Regarding Airfare
  • You may choose to book your own transatlantic airfare to Copenhagen and from Reykjavik.  Then, you would need to book your flight from Bergen to Reykjavik.  We can advise you on specific flights.
  • DO NOT purchase airfare until your space has been confirmed and it is designated as a “go”.
  • Most flights from North America are overnight flights.
  • Carry-on luggage is STRONGLY recommended.  There are laundry facilities in some of the hotels.
Important Notes
  • Professor Steve Solosky and Linda Sloan lead this tour
  • Travelers need to be in good health, ambitious, and energetic.  Everyone is expected to handle their own luggage without assistance, walk 2-3 miles daily, up and down stairs, and on rugged/hilly terrain.  This tour is NOT recommended for those with mobility issues.  
  • Most of our travelers are in their 40’s through 70’s.  Usually half are solo travelers.
  • Tour is limited to about 12-15 travelers.

Day 1, May 18:  Arrival Copenhagen
With perhaps the best location in all of Copenhagen, the 4-star waterfront Admiral Hotel is in the heart of the city.  Located in the theater district, steps from the Nyhavn Canal, it is near shopping, best attractions, great dining spots.  Stroll just outside the hotel to see the Little Mermaid, the stunning Opera house, and the Royal Danish Playhouse.  

Norway by Train and Ferry

Day 2, May 19:  Copenhagen
So much to see and do - start the first full day with a professionally guided tour of the city.  The remainder of the day is on your own with a personal “key to the city” – 24 hours of free public transportation and VIP admission to nearly every attraction in Copenhagen.   In the evening we’ll meet for dinner at a spot right on the Nyhavn canal.

Day 3, May 20:  After a free morning in Copenhagen, embark on a scenic overnight Commodore-class ferry cruise to Oslo.  Each room has a large comfortable bed with large windows.  There is a TV, hair dryer, plush linens and towels.  Enjoy a room service breakfast as we pull into stunning Oslo the next morning. 

Day 4, May 21:  Arrival in Oslo
After a spectacular morning arrival into Oslo harbor, drop our bags at the hotel and hop on the tram through some of the most charming neighborhoods to famous Vigelandsparken Sculpture Park to enjoy  the beautiful sculptures and for lunch.   Check into the 4-star Thon Hotel Opera, perfectly situated in Oslo.  There are plenty of attractions near our hotel (Opera House, shopping, dining) and if they are not near the hotel, the best transportation options are just steps away. Each traveler gets an Oslo Card with  Free admission to 30 major attractions such as Munch Museum, Ibsen Museum,  Holocaust Center, Historical Museum,  National Gallery, Museum of Decorative Arts & Design, National Museum of Architecture, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Norwegian Folk Museum, Nobel Peace Center, Natural History Museum, Kon-Tiki Museum, Viking Ship Museum.   All Oslo city public transportation (bus, tram, metro, ferry) is included. 

Day 5, May 22:  Oslo
Armed with out Oslo Card let's do a 3 hour professionally guided tour of Oslo to include the City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded, the Royal Palace, the Akershus Fortress, Oslo Cathedral, Parliament House, markets, Central Square and other attractions.  Free afternoon on your own.  There is plenty to do and see in Oslo, you will scream with delight when visiting the Munch Museum, jump for joy at the Ski Museum and Tower, and all we are saying is, you should give the Nobel Peace Museum a chance.

Day 6, May 23:  Oslo
This year, we have added another day in Oslo since there is so much to see an do in this fascinating city.  Join Steve and Linda on the ferry to the  Bygdøy Peninsula.  Once there there is plenty of time to visit the Fram Museum, the Kon-Tiki Museum, the Viking Ship Museum and the absolutely fascinating and enjoyable Norwegian Folk Museum. It is a full day in Oslo.

Day 7, May 24:  Myrdal and Flam
Depart from Oslo to Myrdal via train on a relaxing high speed train winding through lakes, forests, and mountains.  Then, enjoy the most beautiful train ride in the world from mountaintop to sea level on the Flamsbana Railway Check in at the outstanding Fretheim Hotel just steps from the train station.   Meet in the fireplace-lit atrium to plan the next full day in Flam.  Then, there’s an authentic Norwegian buffet in the stunning dining room.

Day 8, May 25:  Flam and Cruising the Fjords
Enjoy a day in Flam at the edge of the majestic Sognefjord.  There are a variety of activities to choose from, included on the tour.  Do an easy  hike and see dozens of waterfalls.   Others can opt for a beautiful slow and easy cruise through the Sognenford.  Also available is an exciting Safari cruise on the Sogneford for an “up close and personal” fjord experience.  Norwegian buffet dinner at the Fretheim.

Day 9, May 26:  Departure from Flam to Bergen
New for this tour is a private guided tour to Undredal.  But on the way we meet the local farmer and her goats to say "cheese". In remote but beautiful Undredal visit an authentic Stave church followed by a cheese tasting and lunch.  Afterwards, we hop back in the van for a scenic ride to Bergen where we check into the perfectly located Grand Terminus Hotel.

Day 10, May 27:  Bergen
Start the day with a guided walking tour of this Hanseatic city.  With surprising beauty, rich history, bountiful culture and great dining, this might be the most enjoyable day of the tour.   Museum admission is provided to great city attractions.

Day 11, May 28:  Iceland (This is Day 1 of the optional Iceland add-in tour)
End of tour for those not going onto Iceland.  Otherwise, flight from Bergen to Reykjavik. Check in at Reykjavik Hotel, the Holt Hotel.  We have a quick tour planned of the city before heading out to dinner.

Day 12 May 29:  Iceland  (This is Day 2 of the optional Iceland add-in tour)
Guided 11 hour tour of the South Coast.   Visit glaciers, waterfalls, bird cliffs and lava beaches.  We’ll see the famous  Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the 60 meter high Skógafoss waterfall, and the narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall. 

 Day 13, May 30:  Iceland (This is Day 3 of the optional Iceland add-in tour)
Guided 9 hour tour of the Golden Circle of Iceland.   The Gullfoss double waterfall, geyser hot springs, and the ancient Viking Parliament area of Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

Day 14, May 31:  Iceland (This is Day 4 of the optional Iceland add-in tour)
Free day in Reykjavik.  Enjoy the entertaining flea market downtown, the famed Harpa auditorium, or even a whale-watching cruise.  All these attractions are within walking distance of our hotel.

Day 15, June 1:  Blue Lagoon and Departure (This is Day 5 of the optional Iceland add-in tour)
Enjoy the wonders of the Blue Lagoon.  We'll transport you to and from the famous Icelandic hot springs for a 3-hour stay to enjoy a soothing Comfort Package stay.  Some people say this is their best day in Iceland! We depart from the Blue Lagoon to the airport.

Notes Regarding Airfare:

·         We will provide assistance and details on booking airfare.  Do not book airfare until the trip is designated as a “go”.

·         Book outbound flight from your city into Copenhagen (CPH).   If not doing the Iceland add-on, return from Bergen (BGO). 

·         For those going on the Iceland add-on, note that Iceland Air offers a free stopover of up to 7 days in Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF).   In that case, book your outbound flight to CPH and your return from BGO with a stopover in KEF.  Again, we will provide details and assistance with this. 

·         Most flights from North America are overnight flights.

·         It is strongly recommended travelers obtain trip cancellation and health insurance for this tour.  Some insurance companies require cancellation insurance be purchased within 14 days of making a deposit.  Feel free to obtain insurance from a vendor of your choice.  

Tour Dates:

  • The tour will start in Copenhagen in  May 18, 2020.


·         Double Occupancy:  $3,999 per person.

·         Single Occupancy:  Add $1299.

·        The Iceland 4 night add-on option is $2,199 per person double occupancy, $2,532 single occupancy.

To Reserve Places on this Tour:

  • For the 2021 tour, please send a deposit of $100 per person made out to TRAVELING PROFESSOR LLC and mail to:  TRAVELING PROFESSOR, PO BOX 747, GREAT BARRINGTON MA 01230.  Include contact information (name, address, phone, email) with payment.
  • Deposits are FULLY REFUNDABLE, no questions asked, until January 15, 2020.  After that date we will ask you for an additional $400 deposit that is non-refundable. After that date, we can refund deposits (and all other payments) if someone replaces you on the tour and the tour is filled to capacity.
  • Credit card and PayPal payment is available.  However, banks assess a 3% surcharge which must be added.
