 The Traveling Professor has been running small group tours since 2010.  There are couples on  almost every tour, but we always find women traveling together and women traveling solo.  

A common question we get is from women not wanting to be the only solo person on a tour where all other travelers are couples.  In the hundreds of tours we have run, there have always been at least several solo women travelers or women traveling with friends. 

One of our travelers, Anne, has always loved solo female travel.  She has traveled to over 10 countries by herself.  But she joined a small group tour and found it was one of the best things she ever did.   By going on a small group tour, she found a community of women travelers she never knew existed.  She liked the camaraderie and exchange of ideas.  Although she still likes her solo trips, she likes the appeal of women traveling together too.  It gives her fresh ideas and new perspectives on travel.  

Another traveler, Linda, wanted to travel but did not want to travel solo at all.  She was not an experienced traveler.  She felt unsafe traveling alone as a woman.  But all that changed after she went on a few women only tours and even a mixed small group tour.   Her goal was to get the experience and confidence to be a solo female traveler.  Ironically, that never happened.  Well, she did get the experience and confidence, but she met so many in the women’s travel community, she never had to, or never wanted to, travel solo. She made so many friends along the way on her women's group tours, she always had travel companions from then on.   If there is anything The Traveling Professor is proud of, it’s the women’s community of travelers we unwittingly started that resulted in so many women traveling together, whether it be on one of our tours, in another women’s travel group, or traveling independently.

We think a small group tour is a great way for women to meet other women traveling companions.  We have seen many women’s travel groups form from our trips.  There are many other women travel groups and women only tours that can easily be found on the internet too.  But even if you are a dedicated solo woman traveler, don’t discount the idea of taking a trip with other solo female travelers.  You may be surprised how much you like it.
