Top 5 European Destinations to Find While Cruising:
When I want a more relaxing way to reach my holiday destination, a cruise ticks all the right boxes. However, just because you’re on a ship doesn’t mean you need to forgo your dreams of exploring the world. If you’re planning on visiting European shores, there are five destinations that belong on your stopover list.
Santorini, Greece
You’ve probably seen the iconic whitewashed buildings with blue domes in a few shows and movies and might be thinking, “Santorini is a bit of a cliche”, but I would visit again and again. Plus, it fits in perfectly with a cruise mindset.
Besides a general stroll, don’t miss the chance to taste wine at the cliffside vineyard and explore Oia village. Red Beach, which is Santorini’s famous volcanic beach, is also a must.
Barcelona, Spain
This vibrant city, mixed with its Mediterranean charm and modern architecture, will stick in your mind once you leave. Not only is the food amazing, but there’s so much to explore from a historical perspective. Head to Calle Blai and Calle Parlament Street if you want to indulge in the best food and drinks that Barcelona has to offer. And when you’re ready to walk it all off, visit Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces: Sagrada Familia and Park Güell.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
If you find yourself along the east coast of the Adriatic Sea, you’ll want to stop over in Dubrovnik. Just don’t travel in January, or you’ll need to pack for some nasty weather. Known as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, Dubrovnik is a beautiful walled city with a lot to offer. In fact, it’s so memorable that Old Town was featured in Game of Thrones. I would also highly recommend you take in the views from the top of Mount Srđ.
Amalfi Coast, Italy
A quick cruise stopover along the Amalfi Coast will never be enough. The dramatic coastal scenery will have you in awe and the charming villages might have you rethinking where you want to live. Naturally, you have to sample some authentic Neapolitan pizza while you’re here, but as for what to do, there are too many options to name. If you’re strapped for time, though, explore the cliffside town of Positano and visit Scala, the oldest town on the Amalfi coast.
Copenhagen, Denmark
The Scandinavian charm of Copenhagen is unforgettable and once you’re there, you can explore on both foot and bicycle. The Little Mermaid statue is one of those sites you need to see while here, but for something more unique, head to Superkilen, an electric pink city block. Tivoli Gardens and the colorful Nyhavn harbor are also worth your time. And if you’re in the mood for a genuine beer tasting, Fermentoren and Taphouse are where you want to be.
Bon Voyage
There’s nothing quite like exploring some of Europe by cruise. From iconic landmarks and amazing coastal views to an unbelievable cuisine selection, these are the Euro stops you should consider first if you’re choosing to travel via the high seas.
