  • The Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Granada tour starts in Madrid on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
  • $2,899 per person, double occupancy.  Have your own room for only $899 more.
  • The Barcelona Add-On tour starts in Barcelona on Monday, March 4, 2019.  The cost for the add-on is $1299 (double occupancy), add in $469 and have your own room.
How to Book
  • Send and email to info@travelingprofessor.com letting us know you want to go on this trip.
  • Follow up with a $500 deposit made to TRAVELING PROFESSOR LLC.  Mail to TRAVELING PROFESSOR, PO BOX 747, GREAT BARRINGTON MA 01230.  Include all contact details.  
  • Deposits are fully refundable, no questions asked, up until 14 days after the receipt of the payment. 
  • If the minimum number of travelers isn’t reached and the tour is canceled, all deposits and payments will be promptly refunded.  
  • Wait to book airline tickets until the trip is a confirmed “go”, meaning that the minimum number of 8 people has been reached.
Important Notes
  • Most flights from the U.S. will fly overnight directly to Spain.  The Professor is happy to provide sample airfares for travelers.
  • We ask that passengers wait to buy their airline tickets until the trip is a confirmed “go”, meaning that the minimum number of travelers (8) has been reached.  If starting in Madrid, book your flight into Madrid (MAD) and return from Granada (GRA).  If starting in Barcelona, book your flight into Barcelona (BCN) and return from Granada (GRA).
  • Hand luggage is highly recommended. If you do intend to check a bag, be sure to carry a change of clothes and all essentials in your carry-on in case of a luggage delay.
  • A minimum of 2-3 hours per day are spent either walking or standing up. In order to fully enjoy your experience with us, we ask that our guests be able to walk and be on their feet for several hours at a time both inside and outside and in various weather conditions; be prepared to walk up ramps and slightly inclined terrain and/or several flights of stairs at a time; and carry or transport their luggage over cobblestone streets.

Prepare to enjoy one of the great travel destinations of the world:  Spain.  The Traveling Professor has assembled a wonderful Iberian itinerary.  It includes top-notch hotels, terrific activities, a well-planned touring program, and knowledgeable and engaging licensed tour guides.  You’ll love the history, culture, food of Spain.  Olé!


DAY 1:  Arrival in MADRID 
Check into the centrally located 4-star Preciados Hotel.  Let’s get familiar with Madrid with a professionally guided, 3 hour walking tour followed by dinner.  Each traveler is issued a pass for free local transportation in the city as well as free admission to major sites.

DAY 2:  MADRID
The Prado is one of the great art museums of the world.   Only with a professionally guided tour does the traveler fully understand the historical and cultural significance of the masterpieces of Goya, Velázquez, Bosch and Ribera.  Nearby is the Reina Sofia museum, home of the powerful Guernica by Pablo Picasso.  A short walk away is the modern Thyssen museum with special exhibits by impressionists and other modern masters.

DAY 3, MADRID – Day Trip to TOLEDO 
A visit to this walled fortress, on top of a hill, is one of the most dramatic experiences to be found in Spain.  A rich history of 2,000 years can be found in Toledo.  The existence of three major religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam contribute to the diversity of this most interesting city.  A guided professional tour adds to the meaning and significance of the sites we will see. 

DAY 4, MADRID 

A free day on your own in Madrid.  The Royal Palace is the Versailles of Madrid.  The Plaza Mayor and Puerto del Sol are close to the hotel.  Don’t forget the great shopping and tapas bars. 

DAY 5, Departure from MADRID to SEVILLE
We’ll take the high-speed train south from Madrid to Seville.  After check-in at the best located hotel in the city, the 4-star Casa 1800 Seville, we enjoy a 2 ½ hour walking tour of the city finishing up at some of the best tapas restaurants to be found.

DAY 6, SEVILLE 
Free day in Seville.  Just around the corner from the hotel are the two best attractions in Seville; the Cathedral, the final resting place of Columbus and the historic Royal Alcázar.  Your VIP pass gets you in without waiting in the long lines. 

DAY 7, SEVILLE to GRANADA 
After a 2 ½ hour private luxury van trip, we check into the Casa del Capitel hotel, in the Old Town and in the shadow of the Alhambra.  We’ll do a 2 ½ professionally guided walking tour of the city.

DAY 8, GRANADA
The magnificent Alhambra, one of the great wonders of the modern world,  is on the itinerary for the day.  We’ll have a morning tour with a free afternoon to relax or explore more.

DAY 9, Departure from GRANADA 
It’s time to say goodbye. The airport at Granada provides regular connections to cities like Madrid, Barcelona and

Barcelona Pre-Tour
Monday, March 4, 2019 to Thursday, March 7, 2019

PRE-TOUR DAY 1:  Arrival in BARCELONA
Check into the 4-star Hotel 1898, right in the middle of all the action in Las Ramblas.  This evening we’ll go out for a ramble on Las Ramblas with wine tasting and tapas.

PRE-TOUR DAY 2:  BARCELONA
Our professional guide shows the way from the Gothic Quarter to El Born to Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia and Park Guell.  It’s a full day of fun and more fun ending up with good food.

PRE-TOUR DAY 3:  BARCELONAWhat’s better than a day on your own in Barcelona?  We recommend hopping on the HoHo bus (included) for an overview of this sprawling city. Or, there’s nothing wrong with shopping or enjoying some of the best food and wine in Europe. 


PRE-TOUR DAY 4:  Departure from BARCELONA

Board the luxury high-speed train, included in the cost of the tour, for an early afternoon arrival in Madrid.
