The Traveling Professor Presents a Preview Tour

Spain:  Madrid, Toledo, Seville and Granada

Thursday, October 25 to Friday, November 2

Prepare to enjoy one of the great travel destinations of the world:  Spain.  The Traveling Professor has assembled a wonderful Iberian itinerary.  It includes top-notch hotels, terrific activities, a well-planned touring program, and knowledgeable and engaging licensed tour guides.  You’ll love the history, culture, food of Spain.  Olé!

DAY 1:  Arrival in MADRID
Check into the centrally located 4-star Preciados Hotel.  Let’s get familiar with Madrid with a professionally guided, 3 hour walking tour followed by dinner.  Each traveler is issued a pass for free local transportation in the city as well as free admission to major sites.

The Prado is one of the great art museums of the world.   Only with a professionally guided tour does the traveler fully understand the historical and cultural significance of the masterpieces of Goya, Velázquez, Bosch and Ribera.  Nearby is the Reina Sofia museum, home of the powerful Guernica by Pablo Picasso.  A short walk away is the modern Thyssen museum with special exhibits by impressionists and other modern masters.

DAY 3, MADRID – Day Trip to TOLEDO
A visit to this walled fortress, on top of a hill, is one of the most dramatic experiences to be found in Spain.  A rich history of 2,000 years can be found in Toledo.  The existence of three major religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam contribute to the diversity of this most interesting city.  A guided professional tour adds to the meaning and significance of the sites we will see.

There is much more to see and do in Madrid.  The Royal Palace is the Versailles of Madrid.  The Plaza Mayor and Puerto del Sol are close to the hotel.  Don’t forget the great shopping and tapas bars.

DAY 5, Departure from MADRID to SEVILLE
We’ll take the high-speed train south from Madrid to Seville.  After check-in at the best located hotel in the city, the 4-star Casa 1800 Seville, we enjoy a 2 ½ hour walking tour of the city finishing up at some of the best tapas restaurants to be found.

Get ready for a morning in-depth professionally guided tour of the Cathedral, the resting place of Christopher Columbus.  In the afternoon, let’s have a guided tour of the historic Royal Alcázar.

There’s plenty to see and do on your free day.

After a 2 ½ hour private luxury van trip, we check into the Casa del Capitel hotel, in the Old Town and in the shadow of the Alhambra.  We’ll do a 2 ½ professionally guided walking tour of the city.

The magnificent Alhambra is on the itinerary for the day.  We’ll have a morning tour with a free afternoon to relax or explore more.

Day 10, Departure from GRANADA (Breakfast)
It’s time to say goodbye. The airport at Granada provides regular connections to cities like Madrid, Barcelona and
